Lifestyle Changes for Greater Physical, Mental, and Spiritual Health Ministry/Initiative

May is Mental Health Awareness Month!

The coronavirus has abruptly shattered our lifestyle. We've have had and continue to face many lifestyle changes and challenges since March 2020. Life is so very different in the world today. In the May 5, 2020 New York Times there was an article entitled, "Coronavirus in the U.S.: An Unrelenting Crush of Cases and Deaths." Countless people have recovered from the virus, however, more than 70,000 people have died. "U.S. coronavirus deaths now surpass fatalities in the Vietnam War (1964-1975)." (National Geographic, April 28, 2020) It is predicted that there will be a surge in the number of COVID -19 cases and deaths If we do not proceed with caution.

As states ease some of the restrictions, be sure to use data-driven information, science, and facts as the basis for your decisions. Social distancing still remains to be of paramount importance along with wearing masks and washing hands frequently in an effort to slow the spread of the virus. ( for more detailed information Google: CDC.gov.COVID19)

During these uncertain times and social distancing, it is extremely important to stay connected to your faith, family, friends, etc. Human beings are social animals. Social isolation can negatively affect mental health as well as physical health. Research has found that perceived social isolation and loneliness are associated with depression, cognitive decline, poor sleep quality, a weaker immune system, and potential heart problems. It's important to support one another. We can connect with others by using several types of technology such as; telephone, text, email, Facebook, FaceTime, ZOOM, Duo, etc. Finally, be sure to Exercise>Choose Wisely> Eat Healthy>Relax>Manage Stress> Pray without ceasing, Hold onto God's Unchanging Hand, and stay connected.

Central Oak Grove Missionary Baptist Church hosts many virtual activities throughout the week and on Sunday to address spiritual needs. We also have information about available food banks/resources.

Serenity Prayer

God, grant me the Serenity

to accept the things I cannot change,

Courage to change the things I can,

and Wisdom to know the difference.

Attached are two documents that contain resources to help us to get through this very difficult time in our lives. Please use and share some of the activities with others. A member of a New York church health ministry shared the resources with us. We're all in this together!

1. Coronavirus Anxiety Workbook. A Tool to Help You Build Resilience During Difficult Times.

2. Thriving at Home - A mental wellness workbook for children and their parents during quarantine.
